Decorating Your Home with Abaca Furniture
Gen Wright

Abaca furniture is affordable, readily available, and is quickly gaining popularity. More and more homeowners are taking notice of this low maintenance furniture. But what exactly is abaca furniture and is it really suitable for your own home?

Abaca furniture is created from the fibre of banana trees. Once every one or two years, the trees are harvested for its fibre. The outer layer of the tree is stripped, and left in the sun to dry. Once it's dried, the fibre becomes the ideal material for producing all sorts of useful stuff like ropes, furniture, paper, etc.

The fibre is chosen as a material for manufacturing furniture because it is low cost, beautiful, and tough. When twisted into ropes, it is very difficult to damage the fibre. These ropes are then intertwined around aluminum frames to produce useful furniture. In other words, the ropes can take on any shape. So that means you will be able to find all kinds of interesting abaca furniture that you can use to decorate your own home.

First, decide where you want to place the abaca furniture, and ask yourself what you need. This will help shorten the selection process. Are you going to need a piece of furniture by the poolside? Are you missing an attractive center piece in the living room? Once you are clear about what you need, it's easier to come to a decision.

When choosing abaca furniture, bear in mind the characteristics of this type of furniture. Abaca furniture mostly looks best in a setting that is meant for relaxation or entertainment. That is because it gives a sort of holiday mood to the surroundings. Therefore, it's not really a good idea to place abaca furniture in meeting rooms. You can place them in the waiting area if you want to, because waiting areas allow guests to relax.

In the home, you can place abaca furniture anywhere you want, and the furniture will help you and your family relax. You can place a chair by the fireplace, or you can place a complete set of coffee tables in the study room. This is where the men usually retire to after the dinner to have a good chat about business, politics, and stuff in general.

Mostly, abaca furniture is left in its natural color - the color of the fibre. The natural color is a dark golden color, and looks great in just about any setting. They may come in different shades, some lighter (or darker) than others. But even in different shades, they will match just about any designs. So you don't need to worry about not being able to find something that fits.

Abaca furniture will enhance the look of your home, and are ideal as decorative or functional furniture pieces. So consider adding a piece or two to your home.
